Specs and prices checked on each maker’s page on November 4, 2026. We own a Voltra 1 and belt squat with it; the setup notes below are ours, the owner reports are credited.

A belt squat with the Beyond Power Voltra works, and for most lifters it is the cheapest heavy leg press they will ever own, because the unit is already in the garage. It also has three hard limits that the marketing does not spell out: the cable has to come up from under your hips, so you need something to stand on; one unit tops out at 230 lb (250 lb on the Overdrive beta), which is a warm-up for a strong squatter unless you double it; and nothing in the box gives you a platform or a belt. This guide is the setup we use and the ones owners report, with the numbers for every platform, belt and doubler, and an honest comparison against a dedicated belt squat machine.

The numbers that decide a Voltra belt squat

  • Resistance. 5 to 230 lb per unit in 1 lb steps on firmware 2.0 (released October 22, 2026, free on every unit ever sold). Overdrive is a 2.0 beta you request in the Beyond+ app that lifts a unit to 250 lb. Two units are 460 to 500 lb. A 2:1 doubler plate makes one unit feel like 460 lb at half the cable speed.
  • Cable. 8.5 ft (2.6 m) of 3 mm synthetic cable on the spec page; the older manual says 112 in. Either way there is more than enough travel for a squat from a 10 inch platform. Starting length is settable and remembered across restarts since firmware 1.8.
  • Height of the unit. The Voltra is 3.9 in tall on its own and about 6 in on the Travel Platform. Whatever you stand on has to be taller than that plus the carabiner and belt loop, or you lose tension at the bottom of the rep. That is the whole range-of-motion problem.
  • Mounting. No mount is included. For a floor pull you need a DIY Dock on a plate, a Travel Platform, a low rack mount, or a third-party platform. Beyond Power’s own help article describes the floor-level “cable hack squat” with a belt or harness as a normal use, and we found no stated limit on pull angle; the only cable caution is wear, with a replacement kit at $39 to $119.

The setup we use

Our Voltra sits on the floor between two plyo boxes with the cable coming up through the gap, clipped to a Squat Harness V4 or a CloudLite hip belt. Auto Load lets you stand up into the load rather than starting from the bottom, and Auto Unload drops it when you finish. It is the same idea as Beyond Power’s “cable hack squat” on the Travel Platform, with the boxes doing what the platform cannot: getting your feet high enough above the unit for a full-depth squat. The harness moves the load off the hip crease and onto the shoulders and chest, which is what makes the Voltra belt squat feel like a leg press rather than a hip hinge; we found it much lighter on the lower back than a loaded bar, and it is the same harness we use on the Titan SquatMax-MD and a trap bar.

boxboxunit on the floorharness or hip beltfeet 8 to 10 inabove the unitWhy the height mattersThe unit is about 4 in tall, 6 in onthe Travel Platform. Below that, the cable goes slack at the bottomof the squat.
The box setup: unit on the floor, cable up between two boxes to a harness or belt. The gap sets stance width; the box height keeps the cable under tension at depth.

What we would change: boxes are not locked to the floor or to each other, so stance width is whatever the gap allows and the boxes can creep under a heavy set. A bolted platform fixes both. The Voltra exercise setup guide has the mount and cable-height notes for the rest of the exercises.

Platforms: what to stand on

Platform Price, Nov 4, 2026 Size and height How the cable gets to you Notes
Beyond Power Travel Platform $209 27.6 x 15.4 x 0.87 in; 13.6 lb; unit sits about 6 in high on it Voltra docks on the platform, cable exits upward beside your feet The official floor base. Owners say depth is limited without blocks: “can’t get full depth with just the travel platform”; one reviewer wishes it had attachable steps for belt squats
EVE Mount Olympus From $330 (page shows a $550 original); made to order, about 2 months, non-refundable once in production 37 x 15 x 0.25 in steel plate; about 55 lb with four docks; flat, no height Docks on a grid; stand on the plate or on blocks beside the units Takes up to four Voltras; marketed for “max range of motion for belt squats”; seller requires torque logging on hardware
WM Fabrication LZR Voltra Platform $700, sold out, 10 to 14 week lead time 43 x 15 in; about 55 lb One or two Voltras with a double pulley, claimed up to 800 lb felt Platform only; docks and mounts extra
Vesta Fitness Belt Squat Platform $399 ($319.20 on sale) 31 x 15.75 in footprint; 10.12 in platform height; 12.13 in center gap; 7 degree foot angle Cable comes up through the center gap from a unit on the floor The cheapest purpose-built standing platform owners pair with a Voltra
Oak Club Mfg Monroe 2 From $1,100 3 x 3 in tube, 1 in bolts, oversized footpads with selectable stance width Voltra beam under the platform Owner: about CA$1,600 to the door with the Voltra beam and magpins; ask for the narrow footplate option
Jacked Up Fitness Belt Squat Platform $325 Not published; foot elevation feature Built for Jacked Up rack cables; owners route a Voltra into it Owner: “I’d still like a little more depth”
REP Belt Squat rack attachment $309.99 25.3 x 41.3 x 8.1 in; 41 lb; 600 lb max; 1:1 pulley under a PR-4000 or PR-5000 V2 Voltra cable runs into the attachment’s low pulley Not a platform; you stand on the floor and the pulley is under the rack. One reviewer calls the Voltra plus REP Belt Squat the best belt squat in his gym
DIY: two plyo boxes, step boxes or Rogue ballistic blocks $0 if you own them Any height you want; gap sets stance Unit on the floor between the boxes Our setup and the most common one on the owner forums. Full range of motion. Boxes are not locked down
DIY: steel plate and lumber base About $55 to $80 for a laser-cut plate plus lumber Owner example: 34 x 26 in, about 7 in high, 10 in open center DIY Dock bolted under the platform Open-source mount files exist; one owner built the whole thing for under $400

Pick by one question: do you want the unit under your feet (Travel Platform, Mount Olympus, LZR, Vesta) or beside them (boxes, REP attachment)? Under the feet is compact and keeps the cable vertical, but two units under you limit stance width, which is the complaint that comes up most on the owner forums. Beside the feet costs stance freedom nothing and is why boxes keep winning.

Belts and harnesses

Belt Price, Nov 4, 2026 Rating and build Why you would pick it
Squat Harness V4 $229 (Voltra version at Beyond Power) to $249 950 lb; 6 lb; 3 in straps; clip to the side loops Load on the shoulders, no hip crease pressure, full depth; the one we use. Our Squat Harness V4 review covers fit
Bulletproof CloudLite Belt Squat Belt $99 8 D-rings 1.5 in apart on a 12 in padded strap; four sizes; padded carabiners included Lets you set the attachment point low on the hips for depth; the founder sizes up for deeper hip-crease contact
Spud Inc Pillow Belt $139.99 All cloth, 7 loops 2 in apart; three sizes by body weight; no carabiner included The belt owners name most often with the Voltra; no metal rings to dig into the thighs
Bells of Steel Belt Squat Belt $62.99 5 in wide, 700 lb, carabiner and chain included Cheapest padded belt that ships ready to clip
Rogue Dip Belt About $70 to $90 by region 3 in nylon, 30 in chain, two carabiners Fine for light sets; the chain hangs the load at the front of the hips rather than centered

Where the carabiner attaches matters more than where the unit sits. A belt loop at the hip crease pulls you into a hinge; a harness or a low D-ring on a padded belt keeps the line of pull through the middle of the foot and lets you sit straight down. For glute-focused work the hinge is the point; the belt squat for glutes guide covers that version.

Getting enough load: Overdrive, two units and the 2:1 doubler

A 230 lb ceiling is enough for most hypertrophy sets. One owner who squats 550 lb runs working sets just over 200 lb on belt squats for 10 to 15 reps and says most people are fine with one unit. If you are not, you have three routes.

  1. Overdrive beta. Firmware 2.0 includes Overdrive as a beta you request in Beyond+; it takes a unit to 250 lb. Beyond Power notes higher sustained loads use more battery per session.
  2. Two units. 460 lb, 500 lb on Overdrive. Each unit is set and Auto Loaded separately, so the full load arrives on the second rep, and reviewers disagree on whether the two motors feel synced: one hands-on review says they do not, two owners say it feels smooth. Two units under your feet also narrow the stance.
  3. A 2:1 doubler. A pulley or plate that halves cable speed and doubles felt load, so one unit reads 230 lb and feels like 460. VoltraMounts sells bolt-on doublers for $65 to $205; owners build the same with a $140 climbing pulley. The trade is half the cable travel, which the 8.5 ft cable covers, and the unit reading no longer matches the load on you. Our pulley ratio explainer has the arithmetic.
Doubler Price, Nov 4, 2026 What it is
VoltraMounts Doubler Plate $65 (page metadata shows $57) Bolt-on 2:1 for the Travel Platform, Darko QuickMount and similar
VoltraMounts Inline 2:1 Doubler $115 Rack-mounted 2:1 in line with the unit; Cross Doubler also $115, Omni Doubler $205
Climbing pulley and strap (DIY) About $140 for a rated pulley, less for a 1,200 lb strap The “pulley hack” owners use on the Travel Platform and the REP attachment; one setup tested to 440 lb felt

Which mode to use

  • Weight Training for a constant load that behaves like plates. Start here.
  • Chains is the owner favorite for belt squats: lighter in the hole, heavier at the top, which suits a lift most people are weak at the bottom of.
  • Eccentric Overload at +10 to 20 percent for a heavier lowering phase without changing the concentric load; Beyond Power’s own starting point.
  • Auto Load and Auto Unload are not modes but they are what make the lift practical: stand up into the load, and let it drop when you rack. Firmware 1.8 made the trigger easier to hit mid-set.

The Voltra training modes explainer covers what each mode does to the rep.

Voltra belt squat vs a dedicated belt squat machine

Force 6 Mega Squat Elite $187.94 Rack attachment, lever arm 34 x 19 x 5 in, 24 lb Lever arm 500 lb

The honest comparison: if you already own the Voltra, a $0 to $400 platform and a $100 to $250 belt or harness gives you a belt squat that changes load in one-pound steps and adds eccentric overload, which no plate-loaded machine does. If you do not own one, $2,200 plus a platform buys a belt squat machine and most of a second one. The dedicated machines win on max load (650 to 1,000 lb), on a fixed stance you never have to think about, and on not needing a charge. Our belt squat machine guide compares the machines in full, and the squat machine styles post and Squat Machine Finder cover the rest of the field. We have a Bulletproof VBS on order to replace the SquatMax-MD; the Voltra setup stays for the lighter, higher-rep work either way.

Setup checklist

  1. Update to firmware 2.0 (Settings, General, Firmware Update over Wi-Fi) for the 230 lb ceiling, then request Overdrive in Beyond+ if you need 250.
  2. Get your feet at least 8 to 10 inches above the unit so the cable is still under tension at the bottom. Boxes, blocks or a 10 inch platform; the Travel Platform alone is not enough for most people.
  3. Clip low or use a harness. Hip-crease loops pull you into a hinge; a harness or a low D-ring keeps you upright.
  4. Set Auto Load and Auto Unload before the first set so you never start a rep from the bottom under load.
  5. Protect the screen. A carabiner that lets go snaps back at the unit; keep the screen facing away from the cable path or behind a platform lip.
  6. Lock the platform down. Boxes creep; a bolted plate or a platform with a lip does not. If you double the resistance, the forces on the mount double too.
  7. Check the cable. It is a wear item; replace at the 50 percent reference mark.

Voltra belt squat FAQ

Can you belt squat with one Voltra?

Yes, to 230 lb (250 lb on the Overdrive beta). That covers most hypertrophy sets; strong squatters add a 2:1 doubler or a second unit.

Do I need the Travel Platform to belt squat?

No. It is a convenient floor dock, but on its own it leaves the unit about 6 inches high and most owners cannot reach depth without blocks. Boxes beside a floor-mounted unit, or a 10 inch platform, work better.

What belt works best with the Voltra?

A harness (Squat Harness V4) if you want the load on the shoulders and a straight-down squat; a padded belt with low D-rings (Bulletproof CloudLite, Spud Pillow Belt) if you want a hip-loaded belt squat. Avoid belts that hang the load from a front chain for anything heavy.

Which Voltra mode is best for belt squats?

Weight Training to start, Chains if you are weak out of the hole, and Eccentric Overload at +10 to 20 percent for a heavier lowering phase.

Does the Voltra belt squat replace a belt squat machine?

For loads under about 230 lb per unit and lifters who value 1 lb steps and eccentric overload, yes. For 400 lb plus working sets, a fixed stance and no charging, a plate-loaded machine (Bulletproof VBS, Titan SquatMax-MD, Bells of Steel, Rogue Rhino) still wins.

Can two Voltras be synced for belt squats?

You run both at the same setting and Auto Load each; the full load arrives on rep two. Beyond Power documents no sync mode, one hands-on review says the motors do not sync, and owners who run two report it feels fine.

Is a floor pull bad for the Voltra cable?

Beyond Power publishes no pull-angle limit and its own help article describes floor-level belt and harness squats. The cable is a consumable; inspect it and replace at the 50 percent mark.
